Planning to buy new computers to run MATSim on? Or figuring out in which configuration MATSim runs fastest on your current machine? Then give the MATSim Benchmark a try or look at the findings from some benchmark results.

For example, did you know that a 64-bit Java Virtual Machine runs essentially slower than a 32-bit JVM? In our tests, the 64-bit JVM took about 15% longer to complete the same task. Too bad our scenarios are often so huge we need the 64-bit for accessing more than 2 GB of RAM. And now there comes a new Java Update from Sun (Java 6 Update 14, released May 28, 2009) that, with a little config-flag, runs as fast as a 32-bit JVM as long as you use less than 32 gigs of memory. That's a speedup of ~15% for most of the people running MATSim!
